Bio
Introduced to glass fusing in 2018, Shayna Heller fell in love with the medium and immediately began to experiment and explore ways to incorporate her fine art experience and sense of design into the glass fusing process. In this medium, Shayna found a new home for her training from Boston University-School of Visual Arts and 45 years of broad-based corporate experience where she was responsible for directing the creative input and oversight of design and production processes, as well as mentoring developing designers.
Serving as the current Vice President of the National Capital Art Glass Guild comes naturally to Shayna as her commitment to volunteerism instilled since youth continues to the present day. Shayna works with several community and faith-based organizations that support and help the disabled, the visually impaired, and challenged youth.
Statement
As an artist and designer my glass work fuses fundamentals of fine art and graphic design to create everyday functional objects and displays. I am fascinated by the endless variety of glass fusing techniques and unique reactions that occur during the process. Through research, experimentation and collaboration with colleagues, I continue to discover more ways to incorporate my love of both abstract and representational art into my work. Nature, astronomy and visual puzzles are sources of inspiration for my art. A favorite part of my creation process is the frequent interaction with patrons and the challenge of creating something unique and meaningful for them.
