Magless example

Magless

What is Magless?

Think of Magless as a Glass Lover’s Cookie Exchange. A group of 20 – 25 artists will exchange hand-made glass tiles in whatever technique you’d like – you send a set of identical tiles sized anywhere from 1"x1" to 2"x2" – square, rectangular, or any shape that you like. Think refrigerator magnet without the actual magnet attached. You mail them to the chair of the event who then packs the sets and mails you a set of 20ish different techniques, (with each person’s “recipe” - to continue the cookie analogy – your firing schedule, color of glass, etc). We gather in March each year and share our techniques. It’s like attending 20 different classes. This meeting is often the best attended each year.

Does every sample need to be identical?

Every sample doesn’t have to be exactly identical but they should be done in the same style, same technique and roughly same size. Here’s an example of variation that’s OK – last year someone made freeze & fuse pocketbooks and they were slightly different bags but all done same technique.

Why "magless?"

Again, think refrigerator magnet, but without the magnet. You make and swap them without a magnet glued to the back. (Members who started this coined the phrase so we’re continuing the tradition!)

Why would you want to do this?

You can try out a new idea or technique, or play with different materials than you usually use. You will receive about 20 little works of art created by other NCAGG artists. Please take notes as you create your masterpieces and include your notes.

Please sign up early – we normally begin inviting participants in December of each year to allow plenty of time to create items to share. We limit to the first 20 people who sign up. When you commit to participating you’ll make up to 20 tiles: one for yourself and for each of the other artists. Click here to view detailed instructions.
