I have been a member of NCAGG for 11 years - ever since I moved in Virginia from Texas.
Being a member has put me in touch with many other glass artists in the area. It has also
kept me in touch with local glass art classes and suppliers. But, probably, the best part
of being a member has been the sharing of the other artists. No artist lives in a vacuum
and it is nice when you are experimenting with glass to find out that someone else has
been there and solved the problem! No need to reinvent the wheel! What I enjoy most is our
meetings. Everyone brings a project that they are happy with or, maybe, stumped on. We all
brainstorm to come up with a solution! And we usually do!
I was a fine arts major in college when my father went bankrupt. I then left school and
became a free lance artist while holding a straight job as a copywriter. I wrote for
ten years - Brides Magazine, the first books on the Beatles, fashion for Yardley of London
and tabloids - until I married a military man and set about living around the world. I
first studied glass in 1980 and have been involved ever since.
I sandblast, slump, fuse and make traditional stained glass windows. I no longer do
shows. My work can be seen at Nadine's Folly and at different galleries at various times. I
enjoy what I do because every job is different - different problems, different solutions.
Some of my work is very simple, like little houses and boats. As a child I loved looking
into the windows of homes we passed on the highway and I still do. That's why my
Chesapeake series features windows lit by dichroic glass and simple little houses that
look happy!
