After receiving my Visual Communications degree and designing trade show exhibits, I became anxious to seek another more creative, less restrictive artistic path.I’ve always been intrigued by glass, so I taught myself design and production of leaded stained glass windows. However, this art form also had its limitations with its straight edges. My interest in fused glass was sparked by chance at a supply store. A book from Bullseye on fusing glass and a kiln were my next purchases. My journey in fused glass had begun.

Warm glass’s temperament of analysis, detail, and variability suits my artistic personality. The technique of multiple layers has afforded me the opportunity to experiment with balance between light, color, and movement in depth. My mind shifts from a standard thought process of a flat design to depth of layers and their effects.

Basic color mixing rules do not apply when heat is added in the kiln and chemicals combine. Mixing yellow glass powders with blue will not necessarily create green after firing. Trial and experimentation are constantly required and make the art of fused glass so fascinating.

My most recent work is devoted in the development of techniques to represent balance, transition, and movement in the boundaries between environments. My fusings try to achieve a visual essence rather than a general thought of the image, without strict lineal boundaries. I love to explore air and water, flower and fish, and how the light interacts with them.
